Adi Da Samraj: ORPHEUS and LINEAD

—Catalog of solo exhibition at Sundaram Tagore Gallery, New York City, 2010

With essay by curator Achille Bonito Oliva

Adi Da’s startlingly modern images of the ancient mythical archetypes of Orpheus and Eurydice, portrayed both through unexpected juxtapositions of everyday figures and objects and through entirely abstract figuration. These works—combining digitally modified photographic imagery with hand-drawn elements and digitally generated forms—portray, in an “abstract narrative”, an Orpheus who “never looks back”.

The catalog reproduces the eleven monumental pieces in the exhibition, together with other works from Adi Da’s suites Orpheus One and Linead One.

Softcover; 48 pages, full-color images.

Transcendental Realism: The Image-Art of egoless Coincidence with Reality Itself

—by Adi Da Samraj

Essays on the methods and intention of Adi Da's own art works, and on the tradition and purpose of true art altogether. This expanded second edition includes all the essays published in the first edition and in the small books Aesthetic Ecstasy and Perfect Abstraction, as well as never-before published essays written before Adi Da's passing in 2008. Representative images from Adi Da's later works are also reproduced on the cover, the frontispiece, and in a color insert.

More than a verbal explanation of what his art is "really" all about, this body of words, much like Adi Da's art itself, is a "transformational environment". If you have seen Adi Da's art, and wonder what or who it was that moved you, a careful consideration of this text will serve to integrate the immediacy of the aesthetic experience into a transformed understanding--of Adi Da's art, of art altogether, and of the most profound dimensions of human existence.

Spectra Suites

—by Adi Da Samraj

The Spectra Suites is the first major full-color monograph on Adi Da’s art, published by Welcome Books in conjunction with the collateral exhibition of his work at the 2007 Venice Biennale.

In the ten Spectra suites, Adi Da Samraj combines digital and camera-based work to create a series of dynamic and vibrantly colored visual worlds.

Adi Da Samraj’s Spectra Suites flood and suffuse the body and mind of the perceiver in colors and forms, affording pure joy. But they are carefully equilibrated in a narrative structure, conveying a sense of equanimity and balance as well as “supersensual delight”.

Transcendental Realism: The Art of Adi Da Samraj

Catalog of collateral exhibition at the 2007 Venice Biennale

With essays by curators Achille Bonito Oliva and Peter Frank, and an Artist’s Statement by Adi Da Samraj

Monumental works from Adi Da’s Spectra, Geome, and Oculus suites are reproduced in stunning color.

Adi Da Samraj’s two- and three-dimensional shapes are always concrete communicative realities, statements of a mental order that is never repressive or closed off, but always germinating and unpredictable. In all instances, shapes germinate and multiply with sudden offshoots that reveal the potential of a new geometric eroticism.

The World As Light

—by Mei-Ling Israel

A profusely illustrated overview of Adi Da Samraj’s entire artistic oeuvre up to early 2007—accompanied by key statements he made on his own art and on the artistic process in general.

Adi Da Samraj’s collateral exhibition at the 52nd Biennale di Venezia (2007), “Transcendental Realism”, marked the first time his work was shown to the public. He has created a massive body of highly distinctive and diverse artistic work. Masterfully using the medium of photography and videography He’s made it into a form of art that blows the mind and delights the heart. Most recently, he has begun to make remarkable images in the digital medium.

Adi Da regards his art as building upon the modernist tradition. He greatly values the radical aesthetic freedom and the profundity of meaning characteristic of modernism at its best. And he intends his own art to convey the deepest of meanings—relative to the human situation, and the nature of reality altogether.

It is a rare artist who can convey, convincingly, the sense of being face to face with the source of being. Adi Da can clearly live in the depths without succumbing to their pressure, bringing back pearls of art to prove it.
